Ryedale and District Mencap members had a terrific cycling experience in Dalby Forest recently at the award-winning, Dalby Bike Hub CIC.

The activities were expertly organised by Rob Brown and his band of many, helpful, voluntary assistants.

Chair of Ryedale and District Mencap Patricia Anderson, said: "A new experience for many of our members, they were quickly re-assured and encouraged to participate on one of the many types of cycles ranging from the average two-wheelers to wheelchair-carrying contraptions and every design in-between; many electrically powered.

"After a practice run around the courtyard and necessary adjustments, off our excited members went cycling around the beautiful, level forest paths."

Patricia added: "It was a mindful novelty being able to explore the delights of Dalby Forest, probably not seen before by most of them as many of our members have mobility problems related to their condition. Most had not even been to Dalby Forest and are desperate for us to organise another cycling trip here.

"Our Mencap group covers a huge geographical area, from Botton in the North to Norton in the South of Ryedale. Organising these days out, especially hiring two minibuses, is expensive. Fortunately, Pickering Rotary Club, another charity, were able to contribute handsomely to this cost, for which we are extremely grateful.

"Such was the excitement and pleasure of the day that every one of our members wish to repeat the experience as soon as possible!

"If anyone wishes to join us as a member, or to support us in any small or large way eg as a helper, committee member, fund raising or offering funding, we will be delighted to hear from you and welcome you to our very friendly group.

"We are a local, long-established charity that aims to help people with a Learning Disability to live a happier, healthier, more sociable life and thus improve their mental health and have a less-isolated lifestyle in a more-secure environment."
